Why I’m Running for Waukesha County Circuit Court Branch 5
I am called to serve my community. I have a long history of public service and giving back to the community. The decision to pursue an opportunity to be a Waukesha County Circuit Court judge is based on this foundation of service.
The opportunity to resolve disputes of everyday life and influence others to make positive changes that will impact their future and the future of their families is a reason to keep fighting even when the job feels overwhelming. The ability to change people’s lives for the better is a gift to others and to yourself.
The opportunity to change people’s lives for the better was a primary motivation to enroll in law school after a twenty year career in business. My non-legal career involved problem solving, resolving disputes, and finding a solution that benefited both the client and the customer. As an attorney, I have had opportunities to help people connect with community resources for AODA treatment, domestic violence counseling, or financial education to address personal issues that have resulted in court proceedings. I have counseled families to resolve disputes and accept reality to save family relationships. I have had opportunities to help children transition to a new reality or a new family for a better future. Being a judge is a logical extension of what I have always done.
Community service has been a driving force for me my entire life. From volunteering for food drives while in high school, raising funds in support of educational scholarships through the Wisconsin Alumni Association and for Marian University, to currently serving on the board of directors for the UW Waukesha Foundation. The call to public service has been and will continue to be the motivating factor in taking advantage of opportunities to change people’s lives for the better.
A judge, probably more than any other professional, has the opportunity to change a life almost every day. I want that daily opportunity to continue for me in a new role as Circuit Court Judge. I have strived to treat others fairly, without prejudice, and with the belief of the essential good in others. I understand that a judge wears many hats: administrator; office manager; protector of the community; and trier of fact. My background, professional experience, and value system provides me with the tools to succeed in further service to my community.
